March 11, 2016 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy week in Room 115!  The children continue to create wonderful artifacts for our museum. We have started learning about Impressionism and will continue to paint Impressionistic paintings next week.  The students have been learning about mosaics and have started making mosaic designs on flower pots.  They are looking great!  Students also finished painting their portraits of a friend!  We hope you are all able to visit our Kindergarten Museum on Wednesday, March 30th to see all the students’ hard work!

I hope you enjoy the All I Am books the children are bringing home.  It's great when they have to think of all the things they are and what they want to be.  We've got very talented children!  We also finished a class book called “It Looked Like Spilt Milk” that will start being circulated next week.

The students have also been very busy writing this week. They have been working hard in their journals. We talked about different sight words and working on spelling them correctly in their writing. They are doing a great job!  I would continue practicing these sight words at home with your child to help them learn them even better.

We started a new topic in math on Measurement.  The students have been exploring different tools that we can use to measure objects and describe their attributes.  We have spent most of the week measuring and comparing lengths of objects.

We enjoyed watching another snake feeding this week and also enjoyed the first and second grade multicultural concert this past Wednesday.  We have also been learning a lot about some American symbols, which you will have to ask your child about.  There certainly are a lot of fun things going on at Francis Wyman!

I will be sending a conference schedule home next week.  There isn’t a specific day set aside for conferences so I will be scheduling a couple every day after school.  Please let me know if you have a conflict so we can reschedule.  I feel that it is important for us to meet to discuss your child’s progress before the end of the year.

Don’t forget that the Francis Wyman Family Carnival is tomorrow from 10am-2pm.  I plan to be there and would love to see you all there too!  There are a lot of fun things to do and a bunch of really nice raffles!

Have a great weekend!

Melanie Duncan
